Wild Texans: Brand Identity & Illustration System

Wild Texans is a brand I created to bring Texas wildlife to life through natural history, outdoor culture and education. It's built on a collection of original illustrations of native animals, including the roadrunner, rattlesnake and armadillo.

The Challenge

The brand needed to do more than look good on a shirt. It needed one visual language that could teach, inform and sell. It had to be clear enough for a trail sign, detailed enough for a field guide, and bold enough for merchandise, while feeling unmistakably Texan.

The Approach

I started with the illustration style, because the animals are the heart of the brand. Each species is drawn with the accuracy of a field guide and the personality of a collectible. From there I built the identity around them: logo, typography, color and layout rules that keep every piece consistent.

The System

  • Identity: logo, typography and color palette

  • Bilingual trail signage: English and Spanish, designed for quick reading outdoors

  • Field-guide spreads: editorial layouts pairing illustration with natural history

  • Educational posters: species-focused pieces for classrooms and visitor centers

  • Collectible wildlife cards: a numbered series designed to be traded and kept

  • Merchandise: caps, apparel and products that carry the illustrations into everyday life

The Result

Wild Texans is one system that works across education, environment and retail. It shows how a strong illustration style and clear brand rules can grow from a single image into a full identity.
